My first two weeks here at CCH have been fun and confusing! I have had to start a new school, take not one but two buses every day, and experience a new and different schooling system among many other things. I have a few confessions to make as a Grade 10 newbie.
I was not too sure of the two campuses. It is hard to imagine that even though there are two campuses we somehow manage to maintain one community. I honestly feel very welcome and safe at both campuses. Both campuses include each other; they somehow manage to make them both work together.
Taking a bus to get between the two campuses was a new and exciting prospect. I have never before ridden on a bus. This was my first time and I had to take it twice that first day. Getting on to this bus every day has been a bit of a challenge. The first time everyone was nice and letting other people on first. Since then I can say that there are a lot of kids catching these buses. The one thing I have learned is that the second bus is the bus to wait for.
I am learning to love the quarter system, however coming from a semester system to the quarter system has been a learning curve. Three hour classes are a long time to stay focused! A whole section in two days is a lot of work. Something that I don’t always have…what was I talking about again???
Since grade seven, lockers have always been my downfall. I. CAN. NEVER. GET. THEM. OPEN. And so, I was dreading the first day. Going into this school year I was expecting I might have two lockers, not too bad. It turns out I have three lockers and one of them gets me lots of exercise as I do my squats regularly to get into it. I must say I am learning all of my combinations and locker numbers slowly but surely, but I am very sure lockers and I will never be friends.
Obviously this is my first year in CCH, and I can say that I still have yet to explore both campuses completely. The other day, I was looking for a class and was closely watching the numbers. Just as I came up on the last classroom before the one I was looking for, the hallway just turned into a stairway. Another few minutes and a few more turns and I finally found the class. I think everyone should look for these cute little nooks and crannies around the school as they will make great study spots.
One more thing I am enjoying about being at CCH is the cafeteria. It has some great food in it for a great price. I may be addicted to the fries and gravy already! It is a great place to catch up with friends and find out what they are doing and to plan our frozen yogurt days.
I am hoping to check out the library and some football games soon. I will keep you posted on that. These past few weeks have sure been eventful, and I’m sure that as the year goes on I will have learned so much more. I can’t wait to see how this year goes!
